Echelon of Gifted Nightmares
Gift of genius is haunting. It haunts the man who possesses it. It makes them suffer, immeasurable existential crisis that creates nightmares. Walking and multiplying nightmares. Imagine you can see everything yet you can do nothing about it because no one is doing anything about anything.
In an abnormal society, genius is so unorthodox, unwanted, and undesirable that true genius wants to cease to be original and normal so he can become normal among the abnormal so the abnormal can identify him as normal. How paradoxical it is that one wants to be abnormal to be called normal.
Like a philosopher who taunt and degrades society for not being philosophically profound yet forgets that the layman who has no ability to understand ontology, metaphysics, and the nature of reality, that layman himself is the reason for the philosopher's own survival.
Layman doesn’t want to understand philosophical elements because this knowledge breaks the framework of his social structure. Philosophy is a hurdle to complete basic yet essential chores of his normal life. If one spends his work hours thinking, surely the very fabric of society will start collapsing due to the lack of basic and fundamental necessities. Layman's ignorance is the foundation for the emergence of philosophies which regularly chastise him. That is why he desperately needs a unique and personal God to live with mental satisfaction. This is why refute the idea of a philosophic preaching because they ridicule the people who sustain their lavish life of preaching and happiness.
On the other hand, the genius understands this fine delicate conundrum so profoundly that they choose to be among layman than their own kind because the microscopically detailed dependency of man and beast on each other makes them fall in the self-realization of insignificant emotional or trivial issues around them. The concerns dilutes with the humility followed by the self-sense of worthiness and on the time scale this all is happening. How insignificant is everything on a grand scale which doesn’t even need the support of cosmic scale. Big pictures are always humbling and depressing. It’s the people in-between who have created this self-sustaining miserable system to grind themselves like grain in a mill and to rant about how vulnerable or fed up they are with this misery yet they choose to swallow the Blue pill over and over and over and over.
Genius is not rare it’s just hidden in plain sight because the system in itself cannot identify it without making it suffer, and the process is such an insufferable tedious task that one can’t be courageous enough to be a part of the process. So the system seeks to grind and find while genius isolates to avoid suffering and now the system cannot process isolated ones and without it they cannot be a part of their own and so they choose to be among layman and it seems that genius is rare while it was always there, hidden in plain sight, isn’t it ironically hopeless?
There is no overgeneralization or neglect of agency because prodigies are exceptional no matter where they are born and how they are raised. However, prodigies are rare even if cultural, educational, and environmental factors shape genius because if these variables affect significantly then every individual family with resources should at least produce one genius per generation. Yet Einstein spoke after age 3, Gauss solved 1+2+3+....+100=5050 in preschool, Ramanujan produced mathematical theorems without proof. It doesn’t mean academia was not a real factor to nourish those genius minds. Academia just gave them a way to be themselves without being something else which is not the case for thousand others.
The Philosophy-Layman Dichotomy argument also collapses since ordinary people (e.g. writer himself) seek extraordinary potential in others. Laymen with interest are not philosophers or physicists or mathematicians yet we respect the way of mind, rational, logic and intellect. This doesn’t make us part of that echelon or make us one of them it simply is admiration, which reinforces the idea that society inherently admires and seeks the extraordinary. Abnormality seeking Normality in the guise of normality to call it abnormal.
I am no pessimist (nihilistic maybe or maybe not but) just because I can see doesn’t make me a guide. I have no moral or ethical responsibility to seek solutions to the pre-existing problems of an idiotic system on which by sheer coincidence I choose to shed some light. I possess the ability to see more than layman's peripheral vision doesn’t credit me to intervene with this hollow system doomed to crush under natural avalanche of disappointment and resentment.
Is genius limitless? I do not think so!
Is it timeless or effortless? I disagree with that too. Genius happens and it’s limited with a time stamp too. More relevant and genuine genius minds sometimes make their precursors obsolete and sometimes just render them void or plain irrelevant to face the same destiny by their own which they have brought upon their own. Isn’t this fantastically orchestrated grand clockwork and I say for this same reason it’s not a timeless, effortless, or limitless labor. And why genius? Why not the word intellect?
I think this piece of writing suits more on the intellect than anything else. Intellect can be developed or left blunt, sharpen and can be used anyhow by the individual who possesses it.
So! I think that makes more sense.
